Message from the Chairman

Sustainable development is important to the future of Thai Union's business and the growth of the company because sustainability is the foundation of being a socially responsible organization and a way to achieve our vision.
The company operates with determination and attention to apply various innovations as part of production and develop products to meet the changing needs of consumers, especially the traceability system for the source of raw materials and considering the sustainability of resources in order to preserve it for the future generations, including to build sustainable business growth as well.

The company has continuously researched and developed in order to find raw materials to be used as replacement or to substitute some raw materials that are used in the production of animal feeds such as fishmeal and fish oil, most of which are produced from wild catching and in the past, they were caught illegally and without responsibility. This causes the aquaculture animals in nature to continually decrease.

Currently, the company has reported research results using FeedKind, which is a protein derived from the bacteria group to replace fishmeal protein in the shrimp feed successfully. However, the cost of such raw materials is quite expensive. Therefore, the research and development department still focus on finding other raw materials to substitute or use in combination in order to reduce the cost of feed, equivalent to the standard formula. The study results from the research department will be continuous reports.

For research on finding raw materials to replace fish oil, at present, the fish oil that the company used in the production of aquaculture animal feed is Tuna oil, which is derived from the by-product of Tuna production process. It is like using waste products already, but since fish oil consumption has many benefits for human’s health, resulting in the competition for the use of fish oil is increasing. Therefore, the research department has researched to find the right proportion of oil in food Including finding sources of essential fatty acids for aquaculture animals from other sources to replace the use of fish oil etc.

With regard to raw material procurement, the company has a policy to select manufacturers or distributors who can be audited in order to ensure that they are aware of the environment and or sustainability of resources, according to the standard criteria set by the company. There are some raw materials, such as fishmeal, which must be used with caution. In this regard, the company will cooperate with an independent organization or third party to jointly inspect together with the company. the company has established the Sustainable Development Department to be responsible specifically for this work.
